About WEEN
The Women in Energy and Extractives Network (WEEN) is committed to advancing women’s
participation, leadership, and visibility within the energy and extractives sectors. Our mission
is to promote women’s leadership through mentorship, capacity building, and advocacy in
spaces where women have historically been underrepresented. WEEN therefore supports
women to thrive, influence policy, and drive sustainable change.
We envision a sector where women are equally equipped, equally heard, and equally influential
in shaping the worlds sustainable energy future.
The call
The Women in Energy and Extractives Network (WEEN) is launching a 2026 mentorship
programme aimed at empowering women and young professionals in the energy and
extractives sector. The programme connects mentees with experienced industry leaders to build
technical skills, leadership capacity, and career confidence. Through structured guidance,
knowledge sharing, and professional networking, the WEEN Mentorship Programme supports
participants to grow, thrive, and take on leadership roles in the sector.
The Women in Energy and Extractives Network (WEEN) is pleased to invite applications for
the 2026 Mentorship Cohort. As an organisation committed to advancing women’s
leadership, visibility, and influence within the energy and extractives sectors, WEEN believes
that empowering young women today is essential for building a more inclusive, resilient, and
sustainable energy future.
This programme aims to empower and nurture the next generation of leaders who will shape
policy, drive innovation, and champion gender-responsive climate and energy solutions across
the globe.
What the Mentorship Programme Offers
Participants will benefit from:
i. Guidance on career development within the energy and extractives sectors.
ii. Capacity building in oil and gas, climate change, renewable energy, and
environmental governance.
iii. Coaching on leadership, communication, and professional presence.
iv. Support in goal-setting, academic growth, and personal development.
v. Monthly structured mentorship sessions (virtual or hybrid)
vi. Access to a supportive network of women leaders and practitioners
Who Should Apply
This programme is open to:
• Young individuals in universities (sciences, engineering, law or related disciplines)
• Early-career professionals working or aspiring to work in energy, extractives, climate
governance, or environmental law.
• Individuals passionate about sustainability, gender equality, leadership and inclusive
development
• Applicants who demonstrate commitment, motivation, and a desire to grow
Programme Duration
March – December 2026
Includes monthly mentorship sessions, guided tasks and periodic evaluations.
Commitments Expected
Selected mentees must:
a. Attend scheduled mentorship sessions
b. Set and track clear personal/professional goals
c. Complete assignments or reflection tasks
d. Demonstrate professionalism, humility, and dedication
e. Uphold WEEN values of professionalism, integrity, and collaboration
