Position Title: Program Coordinator (1)

LocationKampala

Contract Tenure: 1 year, with a possibility of extension, subject to the needs of the Organization.

Position Summary: The incumbent will serve as the Program Coordinator for MUWRP’s Emerging Infectious Diseases Program (EIDP) activities. The individual’s primary responsibility will be to assist the Program Manager in overseeing the day-to-day execution of EIDP project activities, field staff support and supervision, undertake QA/QC processes, and harmonization of data and sample collection processes at the various participating health units or project sites in Uganda and Somalia. The incumbent is expected to execute his/her duties in accordance with the requirements of the study protocols, GCP, HSP and QA/QC requirements.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Technical Duties

 

  • Provide regular supervision to the field project staff supporting MUWRP EIDP at the various participating health units or field sites in Uganda and Somalia.
  • Participate in the training of the field staff for the EIDP projects assigned to him/her.
  • Ensure that field staff follow laid down study procedures in enrollment of study participants, data collection, and obtaining specimens from study patients.
  • Ensure field staff comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and GCP/HSP guidelines during enrollment of study participants, data and specimen collection.
  • Ensure patient and confidential data.
  • Coordinate research and surveillance activities between EIDP Project sites and EIDP Laboratories, the Regulatory Office, Administration, and Data Management Centre.
  • Coordinate provision of supplies to sites in liaison with the laboratory manager
  • Maintain good relationship with the participating health unit managers, administrators and site staff.
  • Liaise and coordinate the project’s efforts with the relevant organizations working at the participating health units.
  • Report to the immediate supervisor any irregularities or problems encountered at any of the participating health units/project sites.
  • Prepare periodic site level reports on performance, and other reports as may be delegated by the project manager
  • Support QA/QC efforts by engaging in resolution of data entry queries
  • Develop refresher training plans and schedules for all site staff engaged in EIDP research activities
  • When delegated by the project manager, represent EIDP interests at health events at implementation sites, ministries and other stakeholder activities
  • Schedule site supervisory visits and project meetings.
  • Contribute to development, periodic review and update of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all protocols, and ensure that they are followed by relevant personnel
  • Contribute to grant writing, and writing for publication
  • Contribute weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

 

Administrative duties

 

  • Assume technical, financial, operational, and program management roles when delegated, or when the program manager is away/on leave
  • Maintain confidentiality of study participants or patients’ results and all project operations and staff confidentiality.
  • Assist the program manager with meetings, budgeting and billing as may be needed.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the program manager.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

 

The incumbent must have the following minimum qualifications:

  • A Degree in health-related field from a recognized institution is a must
  • A Master’s in Public Health or infectious diseases from a reputable institution is an added advantage.
  • Two years or more of experience working on surveillance projects and knowledge of surveillance concepts is an added advantage.
  • Experience in developing QA/QC processes and support staff/sites to abide by SOPs and QA/QC guidelines and processes
 

Other Relevant Qualifications

  • Training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Training in Human Subject Protection (HSP)
  • Valid relevant practicing license from appropriate body
  • Data analysis skills are an added advantage
  • Fluency with the Microsoft packages

Personal attributes 

  • Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are essential
  • Fluency in verbal and written English and local languages
  • Knowledge of regulatory procedures is an added advantage.
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to analyze data and situations before making decisions

physical ability

  • Ability to communicate professionally in writting and verbally or other means deemed appropriate. The incumbent should be willing to travel periodically to sites for technical support

 

Supervisory Controls: The incumbent will work under the supervision of the EIDP Program Manager.
