• Specimen Handling and Preparation • Receiving and accurately labelling and sorting specimens. • Prioritizing urgent samples and handling unsuitable specimens according to established procedures. • Preparing samples for analysis by centrifuging, pipetting, or other techniques. • Ensuring proper storage of specimens. • Laboratory Maintenance and Support • Maintaining inventory of supplies and ordering replacements. • Cleaning and organizing the laboratory workspace, including glassware and surfaces. • Disposing of waste materials according to safety protocols. • Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. • Ensure that equipment is functional and well maintained. • Technical Assistance and Testing • Assisting with experiments and procedures under the direction of senior staff. • Performing basic laboratory tests according to established protocols. • Monitoring and recording test results, ensuring accuracy and completeness. • Entering data into laboratory information systems (LIS). • Following safety protocols and maintaining a safe working environment. • Adhere to the relevant Codes of Conduct and Ethics. • Preparing Laboratory reagents, stains for routine investigation. • Others • Manage and account for allocated resources. • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

• Certificate in Medical Laboratory or its equivalent. • Full registration with Uganda Allied Health Professionals with an up-to-date license. • At least 1 year work experience in a busy clinical setting. • Attention to detail: This is paramount for accuracy in labelling, documenting, and analysing results. • Honesty and ethical conduct are crucial in a laboratory setting. • Desirable Skills • A lab assistant needs to keep the lab organized, manage their workload effectively, and prioritize tasks. • Clear and effective communication is essential for interacting with colleagues, supervisors, and other healthcare professionals. • Laboratory work often involves collaboration, so the ability to work well with others is important. • Identify and resolve issues that arise during experiments or with equipment. • Laboratory settings can change quickly, so the ability to adapt to new procedures, equipment, or protocols is important. • Some lab tasks require meticulousness and repetition, so patience and tolerance are invaluable assets. • Personal Attributes • Aged between 22 to 45 years. • Responsibility for the accuracy and reliability of their work and for maintaining a safe environment. • Eagerness to learn. • Enthusiasm and dedication.
