Rustic Construction Company is looking for a Graduate Trainee – Civil Engineering to join our
construction team.
This is a hands-on, on-site position. We are looking for someone who wants to build practical
experience in construction and is comfortable being actively involved in the day-to-day running
of a construction site. This is not an office-based role.
Key Requirement – Architectural Drawings& Design Skills
The candidate must be able to read, interpret and produce architectural and construction
drawings. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other relevant drawing software is required.
Applicants who are not confident reading architectural drawings, understanding dimensions,
layouts, details and construction information will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
The Graduate Trainee will work closely with the site/project team and will be responsible for
supporting the supervision and coordination of day-to-day construction activities, including:
● Supervising workers and monitoring daily site activities.
● Ensuring work is carried out according to approved architectural and construction
drawings.
● Reading, interpreting and explaining drawings to workers on site.
● Checking dimensions, levels, layouts and construction details.
● Monitoring the quality of workmanship and ensuring work meets the required standards.
● Coordinating different trades and ensuring work progresses according to the
construction programme.
● Monitoring materials delivered to site and ensuring they are used appropriately.
● Identifying construction issues and reporting them to the relevant engineer/project
manager.
● Taking measurements and assisting with quantity and material requirements.
● Monitoring site progress and providing regular updates.
● Ensuring workers follow site procedures and safety requirements.
● Assisting with site inspections and quality-control checks.
● Keeping daily site records, progress reports and site documentation.
● Supporting the preparation and maintenance of employee/workers’ records and other
site administration.
● Recording attendance, work allocation and daily workforce activities.
● Assisting with material, equipment and site inventory records.
● Supporting general project administration and documentation as required.
Requirements
● Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a Architecture.
● Recent graduate looking to gain practical construction experience.
● Must be highly competent in drawings, reading and interpreting architectural
drawings.
● Good understanding of construction methods, materials and site practices.
● Ability to supervise and coordinate workers effectively.
● Strong attention to detail.
● Good communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work independently and take responsibility for assigned site activities.
● Comfortable working in a physically active construction-site environment.
● Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
● Basic computer skills and ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
● Willingness to learn and develop practical engineering and construction-management
skills.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, responsible, observant and willing to take
ownership of work on site.
You should be comfortable moving around a construction site, interacting with workers, checking
work against drawings, identifying problems and following through to ensure tasks are
completed correctly.
This role is ideal for a civil engineering graduate who wants to develop into a strong site
engineer/project supervisor through practical experience.
