Field Extension Officers (FEO), (14 Positions (9 in Kole and 5 in Dokolo) | Reports to the Community Engagement Officer
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. General Requirements
(i) All FEOs must live in the sub counties in which they are deployed; and should speak the local language.
(ii) FEOs are fully responsible for the PIP process. They also support PIP farmers to create groups (EGs, VSLAs, FLGs) as per their priorities expressed in the Harvesting Workshop.
(iii) FEOs facilitate the visits of the SWMO/ MDO/ CA to these groups, and they do the follow-up to these visits as agreed. This can include organizing sessions with these groups without the district level experts (e.g. a learning session for an FLG). It can also happen that, once the relation between a group and a district expert is well established, it is not necessary for the FEOs to participate in all events (training; workshop).
B. Participatory Integrated Planning (pathway 1)
1) Lead the selection of project communities (cohort 1 – 4) as guided
2) Plan, implement and report on the day-to-day PIP activities in PIP communities
3) Train PIs through various PIP modules, including the cascading to G1 and G2 farmers
4) Monitoring (data collection), documentation and reporting of PIP implementation
5) Identify one restoration site and one school per sub county with the CVC and CEO.
C. Farming Systems, Irrigation and Extension (pathway 2)
1) Develop an Extension Agenda based on the outcomes of the Harvesting Workshops.
Select the right extension method (Extension Manual) and match this with the available experts (incl. yourself). Update this agenda at the start of every season
2) Organize, provide and report on all extension activities: Exchange visits for peer-to- peer learning, Specific technical training, Field days & Open days; Farmers Learning Groups and Learning plots or any other method planned in your communities
3) Facilitate the training by other experts from PSA, DLG or senior project staff
4) Use mass media (leaflets, radio video etc.) to inform farmers in PIP communities
D. Economic empowerment: Inclusive Market Development (pathway 3)
1) Support MDOs working with PSA to develop inclusive business models
2) Develop an Economic Empowerment Agenda based on the needs of prioritized EGs in
the Harvesting Workshops. Update this at the start of every season
3) Conduct focus group discussions with potential EGs to fill out the Assessment Sheet
for EGs and VSLAs (see par. 6.2.2.) and participate in the district level selection
4) In coordination with the DMO, organize, provide & report on all support for EGs: training on organizational, business- and technical aspects, exchange visits, networking events, etc.
5) Facilitate training by other experts from the private sector, LG or senior project staff
6) Collect & document required data on EGs in collaboration with CVCs and others
E. Farmers Organisations Development (pathway 3)
1) Facilitate structured linkages between EGs, VSLAs, and Anchor Coops/ SACCOs.
2) Monitor service uptake and support HHs to make good use of Anchor coops / SACCOs
3) Mobilizing and organizing households and VSLAs to participate in EFFORT sessions.
4) Identify and aggregate household needs through the EFFORT framework.
5) Support in translating household enterprise, technical, and financial needs into
actionable service requirements for Cooperatives and SACCOs
• Perform any other roles and responsibilities that may be assigned by the community engagement officer or the management of FINASP.
Recommended for you
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
(i) A Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of a diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness,
Agroecology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Agroforestry, Agricultural extension or related fields.
(ii) At least 3 years of experience in fieldwork, preferably in agricultural, natural resources or community development projects.
(iii) Knowledge of Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP), climate-smart agricultural practices, and sustainable land management.
(iv) Strong mentorship and facilitation skills with the ability to engage and inspire smallholder farmers.
(v) Ability to work independently and in remote areas with minimal supervision.
(vi) Fluency in the local languages of the project area is preferred.
(vii) Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit
