The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP)
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Crop Management: Provide technical guidance on crop selection, planting, fertilization, pest management, and harvesting.
• Soil Health: Conduct soil analysis, recommend conservation and fertility practices, and promote sustainable soil management.
• Crop Monitoring: Track crop health, diagnose potential issues, and develop timely solutions.
• Farmer Training: Deliver training and extension services on agronomic best practices, crop management, and soil conservation. Lead farmer mobilization for field days in collaboration with Cooperative Advisors (CAs).
• Demonstrations & Field Trials: Source materials and set up demo plots with Hub Agro-dealers and Farmer Cooperatives. Support field trial planning and implementation with project partners.
• Crop Planning & Selection: Advise on suitable crops based on soil, climate, and market conditions. Develop crop rotation plans to optimize yields and reduce pest/disease risks.
• Environmental Stewardship: Promote sustainable farming practices that mitigate soil erosion, nutrient loss, and environmental impact.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work with local government structures and stakeholders to implement project activities. Provide actionable insights to farmers, build market linkages, and monitor agro-dealer and cooperative progress. Oversee Cooperative Advisors, supervise field activities, and support monthly planning and budgeting.
• Data Analysis: Collaborate with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team to collect and analyze data on crop yields, soil health, and agronomic outcomes to inform decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in agronomy, crop management, and soil science.
• Technical Skills: Strong expertise in agronomic practices, crop physiology, soil science, and agricultural technologies.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
• Analytical Skills: Proven ability to conduct data collection, analysis, and problem-solving in agricultural contexts.
• Local Knowledge: Familiarity with regional crops and agricultural practices will be an advantage.
